Born 1765 York England. He joined HMS Sirius 24 March 1787 at Portsmouth, crew number 185, aged 23 years with previous service on the Ardent.

He was stranded on Norfolk Island in March 1790 and mustered on 20 Mar 1790 on Norfolk Island after the shipwreck. In Feb 1791, returning to Port Jackson per HMAT Supply and disembarked on 26 Feb 1791.

Monk then embarked on the Dutch vessel Waaksamheid for England and discharged 27 Apr 1792. He served at sea from 30 Sep 1778 – 30 April 1797.
