HMS Sirius

HMS Sirius was originally the merchant ship Berwick, which was refitted out asHMS Berwick in early 1782 by the Royal Navy. The ship was commissioned to escort the First Fleet and renamed HMS Sirius in October 1786, leaving Portsmouth on 13 May 1787 for the 36 week voyage as the flagship Royal escort ship of the First Fleet.

HMS Sirius travelled to the Cape of Good Hope from Port Jackson to obtain provision the colony in October 1788, returning to Sydney Cove in May 1789. On 19 March 1790 HMS Sirius with Captain John Hunter at the helm, found herself to been shipwreck on a reef on Norfolk Island.
